Netflix has confirmed that Danny Boyle's upcoming film Ink, which dramatises Rupert Murdoch's creation of a new brand of British tabloid journalism, will receive a theatrical release before landing on the streaming service. The announcement places the film firmly within the awards-season window and follows news that Ink will open the Venice Film Festival, underlining the project's prestige positioning ahead of its wider streaming debut.

Ink is set for cinemas from 11 December, before streaming on Netflix from 8 January 2027 in the US and Latin America. The film, adapted by James Graham from his own Tony-winning play, stars Jack O'Connell as newspaper editor Larry Lamb and Guy Pearce as Murdoch, with Claire Foy also featured, and follows Murdoch's decision to hire Lamb to run The Sun. It will premiere in competition as the opening film of the 83rd Venice Film Festival on 2 September and will also screen at Toronto, with Boyle, Tracey Seaward, Tessa Ross and Michael Ellenberg producing for StudioCanal, Media Res and House Productions.
