Kamelot guitarist Thomas Youngblood has criticised the growing use of artificial intelligence in creative and everyday tasks, saying he hopes the trend "runs its course" as people return to thinking for themselves. Speaking to Portugal's Metal Global, Youngblood said he has never used AI tools such as ChatGPT to help write music, likening reliance on such systems to earlier concerns about people outsourcing their thinking to Google. His comments matter as they add a prominent musician's voice to an ongoing industry debate about AI's role in music-making, at a moment when AI-generated tracks and tools are becoming more common.

Youngblood, marking 30 years with Kamelot and the band's fourteenth studio album, said AI use "is not something we would even entertain" creatively, though he admitted using ChatGPT once to build a tour itinerary. He described large language models as "a little scary" because they learn from users' questions, and predicted AI could become "the next kind of iteration of Google". The interview coincided with promotion for Kamelot's new album "Dark Asylum", out 28 August via Napalm Records, a 15-track record continuing the band's RavenHill narrative, produced by Sascha Paeth with mixing by Jacob Hansen, and featuring a guest appearance from Miss World Chile 2025 Ignacia Fernández.
