Willem Dafoe stars in "The Birthday Party", a new mystery drama directed by Miguel Ángel Jiménez, which releases in cinemas and on demand this week. The film, based on the novel of the same name by Panos Karnezis, follows a ruthless tycoon whose lavish birthday party for his daughter becomes the setting for hidden agendas and a brewing family confrontation. Collider has released an exclusive sneak peek clip ahead of the film's launch.

Set on a private Mediterranean island in the late 1970s, the story centres on tycoon Marcos Timoleon (Dafoe), modelled loosely on Aristotle Onassis, and his daughter and heiress Sofia, played by Vic Carmen Sonne. The exclusive clip shows Marcos confronting Sofia over her pregnancy and his controlling demands about the baby, foreshadowing the film's climactic clash between father and daughter. The cast also includes Joe Cole, Emma Suárez and Carlos Cuevas, and the film opens in theatres and on digital platforms on 14 August.
