Great Britain’s Angharad Evans won her first European Championships gold medal in the women’s 100m breaststroke in Paris, setting both a championship record and a British record. The 23-year-old’s victory underlines her emergence as a leading British swimmer in the event.

Evans finished in 1:04.87, a lifetime best, ahead of Ireland’s Mona McSharry and Italy’s Benedetta Pilato. Elsewhere, Britain’s Amalie Smith won 400m individual medley silver, while Filip Nowacki and Greg Butler reached the 200m breaststroke final; Italy’s Sara Curtis also set a women’s 50m backstroke world record of 26.63 seconds.
