Nicky Jam has released “La Foto”, a collaboration with Cuban newcomer El Shadow, alongside a music video premiered by Billboard. The song matters as it gives a relatively little-known independent artist from Cuba a high-profile partnership after Nicky Jam discovered his work through Instagram.

Released through Plus Media and EMM, “La Foto” combines acoustic guitar and Afrobeats rhythms with lyrics about romantic attraction and making the first move. El Shadow, 26, shared a snippet online in February and asked followers to tag Nicky Jam; the established Puerto Rican artist responded within hours and recorded vocals a week later. El Shadow, who has about 15,000 Instagram followers, said the opportunity was especially meaningful amid Cuba’s continuing problems with power and internet access.
