A passenger train derailed between Haywards Heath and Lewes in East Sussex at about 3.54pm, leaving passengers reportedly trapped and prompting a major emergency response. The incident has disrupted rail travel in the area, with cancellations expected until 10pm and significant delays likely.

The eight-carriage train reportedly had three carriages overturned, with more than 40 people believed to be inside; emergency crews were providing first aid. Images appeared to show people standing on carriages lying on their sides, while a section of track looked buckled, although the cause had not been officially confirmed.
