Erykah Badu and The Alchemist announce long-awaited joint album with soothing single ‘Witch Doctor’
Erykah Badu and producer The Alchemist have announced a self-titled collaborative album, due for release on 28 August via Control FREAQ/Young. They have also shared ‘Witch Doctor’, a calming new single that previews the record and follows earlier releases ‘Next To You’ and ‘Echos 19 (Mix 122)’. The project is significant as it marks Badu’s first studio album since 2010 and fulfils a long-awaited collaboration between the two artists.
The album was co-produced by Badu and The Alchemist and recorded over 18 months in Dallas and Los Angeles, although its tracklist remains unannounced. The pair will tour North America next month before UK and European dates in the autumn, including two London shows at Blue Note. Badu has attributed the long gap between albums partly to touring for much of each year, while The Alchemist’s past collaborators include Kendrick Lamar, Nas and Snoop Dogg.
