A pivotal day for Chelsea, Man City and Fernandez – what’s going on?

BBC Sport · 3 hours ago

Chelsea have set Manchester City a 17:00 BST deadline on Friday to make an offer for Enzo Fernandez, valuing the Argentina midfielder at £120m. Any move appears closely linked to City selling Rodri to Barcelona, making the day potentially significant for both clubs and for manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with Fernandez at Chelsea.

City have already spent £116m on Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, but Fernandez could provide further versatility in midfield after a 15-goal season. Rodri, 30, reportedly wants to join Barcelona, although City’s £68.4m valuation is well above Barca’s opening £38.5m offer; he has one year left on his contract. Fernandez’s relationship with Chelsea has deteriorated since Maresca’s departure, while Real Madrid have ruled themselves out of a deal.

  • Chelsea want £120m for Enzo Fernandez.
  • City’s move depends on Rodri leaving.
  • Barcelona’s Rodri bid is below City’s valuation.
