‘It is heartbreaking:’ Not even U.S. senators can take what’s going on with children on Roblox anymore

A bipartisan US Senate Judiciary Committee investigation has been opened into Roblox over allegations that its platform is failing to protect children. Senators Josh Hawley and Dick Durbin say the company’s public safety claims conflict with reports of grooming, sexual exploitation, abuse and other harms linked to contacts made through Roblox, placing the company under federal scrutiny.

The senators’ letter requires Roblox to preserve records relating to child safety, abuse, bullying and financial exploitation. It cites 65,381 reports of suspected child sexual exploitation made by Roblox to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2025, reportedly double the previous year’s total; the company also faces inquiries in Louisiana, Los Angeles County and Florida.
