Kristen Stewart has acknowledged that her character in the new stoner comedy The Wrong Girls may be connected to Phoebe, the government agent she played in 2015’s American Ultra. The suggestion is a playful fan theory rather than a confirmed plot link, but it highlights the similar government drug-experiment elements in both films.

In The Wrong Girls, Stewart plays Frankie, an unmotivated college dropout who, with best friend Molly, discovers a drug enabling telepathy while trying to raise rent money within 24 hours. Frankie later encounters her double, Frances, a government employee involved in developing the drug; American Ultra similarly featured Stewart as an agent tied to a superhuman drug trial. Writer-director Dylan Meyer said there is material for a potential sequel, although none is currently planned.
