Disney has unveiled an early model for a new Avatar-themed boat ride planned for Disney California Adventure, offering the first indication of how one attraction in the forthcoming Avatar Destination may look. The reveal matters because it suggests a large-capacity ride in the park’s north-east corner, replacing the area currently occupied by Hollywood Land.

The model, shown at the D23 fan event in Anaheim, depicts boats seating at least 30 people, compared with six to eight on Florida’s Na’vi River Journey and 22 to 24 on Pirates of the Caribbean. Fans have speculated that it could use the more dynamic ride system from Shanghai Disneyland’s Pirates attraction, although Disney has not confirmed this; further details may emerge at D23’s Disney Experiences panel.
