Fairphone is finally releasing its first official handset in the US
Fairphone has launched its first officially supported smartphone in the US, ending a period in which American buyers had to source the sustainable, repairable devices through third-party sellers without guaranteed carrier compatibility. The new Fairphone Gen. 6+ builds on last year's Fairphone 6 with upgraded internals and is being sold directly by Fairphone and via Amazon, with confirmed support for T-Mobile and AT&T, though not Verizon.
The handset costs $650 (£569 in the UK) and features a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, 12GB of DDR5 RAM, a 6.3-inch OLED display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate, 256GB of storage with microSD expansion, and a 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 700C main camera, alongside a new Gallery app. It ships with Android 16 and at least seven years of software updates, is made from over 50% fair or recycled materials, has an estimated carbon footprint of around 30kg, and is claimed to be the only fully e-waste-neutral smartphone sold in the US. Fairphone also plans to release the Fairbuds 2, updated repairable wireless earbuds, later in Q4.
