British sprinter who won two golds at 2010 Commonwealth Games is missing following trip to Morocco two months ago

Leon Baptiste, a 41-year-old former British sprinter and Commonwealth Games champion turned athletics coach, has been missing for two months after travelling to Morocco with friends, reportedly for a stag do or golfing trip. He had apparently only planned to be away for a weekend, but has not returned or been in contact, and calls and texts to his phone have gone unanswered, prompting a former teammate to raise the alarm on 14 August. The disappearance has caused concern in the British athletics community, with one former teammate describing him as a "very calm and sensible chap" whose absence was "very worrying".

Baptiste won two gold medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, in the 200m and the 4x100m relay, and earlier took European Junior Championship gold in 2003. He retired from competitive athletics in 2014 after a knee injury and moved into coaching, later working as a UK Athletics consultant in Loughborough and training elite athletes including Paris Olympic bronze medallist Charlie Dobson, who has struggled with injuries and poor form since his coach vanished. UK Athletics has declined to comment publicly, while the Foreign Office said its staff "stand ready to support British nationals abroad 24/7".
