PETA Shares Hayden Panettiere Dolphin-Saving Campaign Shot Before Death
PETA has released a video and photography campaign featuring Hayden Panettiere, shot roughly two weeks before her unexpected death on 17 August at the age of 36, calling for an end to the captivity of dolphins and whales at marine parks. The footage, shared by PETA on YouTube on Tuesday, shows the Heroes and Nashville actress photographed in a cramped bathtub before addressing the camera directly, likening the confined space to the tiny tanks in which marine animals are kept.
In the video, Panettiere urges viewers to imagine the "frustration, trauma and depression" endured by captive dolphins and whales, and asks people to pledge never to visit marine parks such as SeaWorld that hold the animals in "extreme captivity." PETA said it was sharing the campaign as a tribute to her "legacy of compassion," continuing advocacy work she began at 18, when she confronted dolphin hunters in Taiji, Japan, activism later featured in the Oscar-winning documentary The Cove. Panettiere's other credits include I Love You, Beth Cooper, Scream 4, Scream VI and the 2011 telefilm Amanda Knox.
