Charley Crockett Says He “Lost A Lot Of Respect” For Jack White, Claims The White Stripes Avoided “Political Issues”

Country singer Charley Crockett has issued a second lengthy statement responding to backlash over dropping the doo-wop duo Twin Temple from two of his tour dates, this time denying the decision was about their Satanic imagery and instead criticising Jack White, who subsequently invited Twin Temple to open for him. White is a former member of the White Stripes, and Crockett questioned why White wasn't "so outspoken" about political issues during that band's run, suggesting he avoided controversy to protect his audience at the time.

Crockett insisted the original split with Twin Temple stemmed from unworkable production requests and on-stage content, not religious imagery, and claimed the band manufactured the controversy to promote a new album and tour. He also accused unnamed artists and media outlets of exploiting the row for clicks. Notably, White's claim of past political silence is disputed by the record: the White Stripes tackled immigration on 2007's "Icky Thump," sold "Icky Trump" merchandise in 2016, and White spoke out against the Iraq War and George W. Bush in the 2000s. Twin Temple, meanwhile, are set to support White at the Hollywood Palladium on 29 September and have announced a new album, Doomed Lovers, produced by Shooter Jennings, who also worked on Crockett's reissued album Clovis.
