Quentin Tarantino’s Near-Perfect Western Masterpiece Is Officially Soaring on Streaming
Django Unchained, Quentin Tarantino's 2012 revisionist Western, is now available to stream for free on Pluto TV and has become one of the platform's most-watched films. The renewed attention comes as Tarantino has reiterated that he intends to direct only one more feature film, making it a fitting moment to revisit one of his most acclaimed works, which paid homage to spaghetti Westerns by Sergio Leone and Sergio Corbucci.
The film stars Jamie Foxx as a freed slave turned bounty hunter seeking revenge against those who enslaved his wife, played by Kerry Washington, alongside Christoph Waltz, who won his second Tarantino-directed Oscar for the role, and Leonardo DiCaprio as a brutal plantation owner. It grossed $425 million worldwide on release and sparked considerable debate over its provocative depiction of slavery in the Antebellum South, with critics divided over whether it gives overdue prominence to Black characters or offers a sanitised retelling of history through a white director's lens. Samuel L. Jackson also features prominently as Stephen, the plantation owner's confidant.
