Welsh FA chief calls for Fifa’s Infantino to step down

BBC Sport · 3 hours ago

Noel Mooney, chief executive of the Football Association of Wales, has called for Fifa president Gianni Infantino to step down over his handling of a scrapped plan to sell off stakes in the World Cup and other competitions to private investors. Mooney, who previously worked with Infantino at Uefa, said the "harm that's been done to football" means Infantino should go despite the plan being abandoned, adding that too much power currently sits with one person at the top of Fifa.

Wales was the first home nation to withdraw its backing for Infantino's continued leadership this month, a stance later followed by others including Scotland. The controversial proposal involved creating a new company to manage commercial and ticketing rights for all Fifa competitions, with 21% to be sold to a private investment firm. Mooney said trust in Infantino has been broken among many football associations worldwide and called for a full, independent review of Fifa's governance and structures.
