David Tennant Returns to ‘Doctor Who’ for a New Adventure – but There’s a Catch

Polygon · 3 hours ago

David Tennant is set to return as the Tenth Doctor, but not on television. Big Finish, a British audio production company, has announced a new 12-episode Doctor Who audio drama titled "Doctor Who — The Tenth Doctor and Rani", pairing Tennant with Anjli Mohindra reprising her role as Rani Chandra from the 2008 spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures. The catch for fans hoping for a full TV comeback is that this is an audio-only release, though it still offers a substantial new run of adventures for the character.

The series is due out in August 2027 and will see the Doctor and Rani reunited through their shared connection to the late Sarah Jane Smith. Storylines include investigating cryptids in present-day Cumbria, visiting the set of a 1970s science-fiction show, and confronting a crisis at the coronation of Elizabeth I. The pair previously crossed paths in "The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith", though Rani was much younger at the time.
