‘Lucky’ Bosses Break Down That Killer Finale, Necessary Book Changes — and If There Could Be a Season 2
Apple TV's limited series "Lucky" concluded its seven-episode run with con artist Lucky (Anya Taylor-Joy) choosing to walk away alone from the stolen fortune at the centre of the season, a decision showrunner Jonathan Tropper says was always the plan for the character to achieve true freedom. Based on Marissa Stapley's 2021 novel, the series followed Lucky as she was pursued by FBI agent Billie Rand (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor) and crime boss Priscilla (Annette Bening), while dealing with the death of her husband Cary (Drew Starkey) and reconnecting with her con-artist father, John (Timothy Olyphant).
In the finale, a tense exchange at a gas terminal sees Rand kill a corrupt fellow agent, Priscilla turn on and shoot her boss Wayne Whittaker (William Fichtner), and Lucky and John escape with the money. However, Lucky ultimately rejects the cash, secretly swapping out the crypto seed phrase her father tries to steal and leaving him a message confronting his lifelong habit of "working an angle," severing their relationship as she starts a new, independent life.
- "Lucky" finale ends with Anya Taylor-Joy's character choosing to go it alone.
- She rejects the stolen fortune and outsmarts her con-artist father, John.
