Busan Film Festival Sets Kim Jong-kwan’s ‘The Table: Day and Night’ as Opening Film

The Hollywood Reporter · 3 hours ago

The Busan International Film Festival has chosen Kim Jong-kwan's "The Table: Day and Night" as the opening film for its 31st edition, with the drama set to have its world premiere at the Busan Cinema Center on 6 October. The film, which follows four couples experiencing moments of romance in a Seoul coffee shop, is a loose follow-up to Kim's acclaimed 2016 feature "The Table" and continues the director's signature style of interlaced, conversation-driven storytelling.

The cast includes Kim Minha, Joo Jong-hyuk, Han Sun-hwa, Chang Ryul, Shim Eun-kyung, Lee Hee-jun, Jeon So-young and Kim Dong-hwi, portraying separate romantic storylines unfolding across summer and autumn. BIFF praised the film for capturing "subtle shifts" in relationships without relying on dramatic plot turns. Kim Minha will also host the festival's opening ceremony, at which Michelle Yeoh, Ann Hui and festival founder Kim Dong-ho will receive honorary awards. The 31st Busan International Film Festival runs from 6 to 15 October, alongside the Asian Contents & Film Market from 10 to 13 October.
