Geologist Reveals New Album The Sirens
Animal Collective's Geologist (Brian Weitz) is set to release a new album called The Sirens on October 16 via Outside Time. The record grew out of a 2024 collaborative session at the Farrington Observatory in Joshua Tree, where Weitz worked with visual artist Kyle Simon on an experimental production approach. Rather than traditional instruments, they used a telescope outfitted with light-sensitive detection equipment that captured emissions from stars and planets, translating that astronomical light into electrical signals that controlled various parameters of Weitz's synthesizer equipment.
This marks the third album release from Weitz in 2026, adding to his January solo record and a May collaboration with Animal Collective colleague Avey Tare. Weitz and Tare plan to tour together starting next month, with their first show on September 8 in Asheville, North Carolina.
