Wolf Alice complete run of ‘The Clearing’ B-sides with the folksy ‘Hit The Sky’

NME · 3 hours ago

Wolf Alice have released "Hit The Sky", a folk-rock track that completes their run of B-sides accompanying their album "The Clearing". It follows the piano-led "Gospel Oak" and a cover of The Roches' "Hammond Song", both of which featured Sunflower Bean's Julia Cumming. The release rounds off a set of songs the band recorded but left off the original album, giving fans further material from sessions behind their acclaimed record.

"Hit The Sky" was originally a demo made in Seven Sisters and later reworked with fiddle from James Gavin and backing vocals from Cumming; frontwoman Ellie Rowsell said it is about "encouraging someone you love to be themselves". The full "The Clearing: B Sides" collection is out digitally now, with a seven-inch vinyl edition following on Friday 21 August. "The Clearing" became Wolf Alice's second UK Number One album, earned a record fourth consecutive Mercury Prize nomination and a BRIT Award, and the band are due to support Olivia Rodrigo on the North American leg of her "Unraveled Tour" later this year.
