Sekyiwa Shakur, sister of Tupac Shakur, spoke to Law & Crime Network on the second day of the murder trial in Las Vegas, saying her family had never expected the justice system to deliver accountability for her brother's 1996 killing. She linked this to the broader historical treatment of Black men in America, saying the deaths of "young Black boys" are often overlooked, but said she finds justice instead in the doctors, lawyers, teachers and artists her brother has inspired since his death.

Duane "Keffe D" Davis, a former Los Angeles gang leader, was arrested in September 2023 and charged with first-degree murder over the shooting, which took place in Las Vegas in September 1996 when Tupac was 25. Prosecutors say Davis orchestrated the killing as an "act of revenge" after his nephew was assaulted earlier that night, though he is not accused of being the gunman; the trial began with opening statements on Monday 17 August and is expected to last at least four more weeks.
