NWOBHM Icons GIRLSCHOOL To Release Archival Live Album, ‘Nothin’ To Lose In Reading 1981′, In September

NWOBHM pioneers Girlschool are releasing "Nothin' To Lose (Live In Reading 1981)", an archival live album capturing their landmark performance at Reading Festival in August 1981, when they became the first female rock band to headline the festival — and remain the only one to have done so. The release, out on 25 September, is the first of five planned archive live albums documenting the all-female south London band's history, offering fans a document of the group at what is described as their peak as a live act.

Despite mishaps on the day, including a damaged hired car, a mis-strung guitar and a sabotaged stage backdrop, the band delivered a set dominated by songs from their then-current album "Hit And Run", alongside earlier material from 1980's "Demolition" and their cover of "Race With The Devil", to a crowd estimated at 20,000 to 30,000. The album is preceded by a single of its title track, and will be issued on CD and on red-and-white spatter vinyl. Vocalist/guitarist Kim McAuliffe recalls the show fondly, including praise for late guitarist Kelly Johnson's performance despite equipment problems.
