Google Gemini is getting a dedicated student hub
Google is launching a dedicated student hub within Gemini ahead of the back-to-school season, bringing together research, revision and organisational tools in one place. The move is part of a broader push by Google to position Gemini as a core study companion, adding features such as study notebooks, flashcards and practice quizzes, and reflects growing competition among AI firms to win over students as a key user group.
The new hub allows students to collect research in study notebooks that now support graphs and images, and can automatically add test dates and deadlines to Google Calendar based on a course syllabus. Gemini Live is also gaining Deep Research, letting users request detailed reports and discuss them by voice, even while their phone is locked. In the coming weeks, Google Lens will let students photograph worksheets to get explanations or coaching on mistakes. Eligible US students can claim a free year of Google AI Pro (5TB storage, higher Gemini limits, Google Health Premium), while those outside the US will receive the more limited Google AI Plus, with 400GB of storage and lower usage caps.
- Gemini gains a student hub with notebooks, flashcards and quizzes
- Deep Research comes to Gemini Live for voice-based report discussions
- US students get free Google AI Pro; others get lesser AI Plus tier
