Toei, Shochiku, Kadokawa Among IP Holders Set for TIFFCOM’s Tokyo Adaptation and Remake Market
Eight major Japanese publishers, studios and production companies will pitch their intellectual property to international buyers at the second edition of Tokyo IP Market: Adaptation & Remake (TIPM), taking place 28-30 October at TIFFCOM 2026 in Tokyo. The initiative aims to connect Japanese rights holders with producers from Hollywood, Europe and Asia who are looking to secure adaptation and remake rights to Japanese manga, novels and classic films, reflecting the growing international appetite for reworking established Japanese IP.
This year's participants are Amuse Creative Studio, Kadokawa, Nihon Bungeisha, Nippon Animation, Shochiku, Shufu to Seikatsu Sha, Square Enix and Toei, up from six companies at the inaugural edition last year. The market grew out of the Tokyo Story Market, launched at TIFFCOM in 2023, before being rebranded as TIPM in 2025 and expanded to include film studios; it also made its international debut at May's Cannes Film Market under the Japan IP Market banner. Shochiku brings a 131-year catalogue spanning Yasujiro Ozu classics to contemporary genre films, while Toei — whose properties have already inspired "Power Rangers" and "Yolo" — will present alongside Square Enix, whose titles like "Fullmetal Alchemist" have generated multiple adaptations. TIFFCOM, now in its 23rd year, runs alongside the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival, which opens on 26 October.
