Reba McEntire Celebrates Five Decades of Music With Themed EPs: ‘You Got To Keep Recreating Yourself’

Billboard · 2 hours ago

Country music icon Reba McEntire is marking 50 years of recording music with a series of monthly themed EPs that pair a new song with four catalogue tracks, aiming to connect longtime fans with newer material and introduce younger listeners—many of whom know her from television, film or Broadway—to her extensive back catalogue. The initiative, spearheaded by her manager Justin McIntosh alongside her label MCA, taps into what McEntire calls a booming nostalgia-driven catalogue market by thematically linking fresh releases with older songs.

The latest instalment, "Tourist," featuring songs written by Grammy winner Brandy Clark, is released on 21 August, following earlier EPs including "One Night in Tulsa," "Hurt Like That," "Ain't Gonna Keep It Waitin'" and "Ring Ring," all available digitally. McEntire, a Country Music Hall of Famer with 60 top 10 hits and 24 No. 1s on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, said she initially had reservations about some material, such as "Ring Ring," a comedic song about a cheating partner, given her age and legacy, but embraced the project as a way to bridge her decades-long discography with contemporary audiences.
