West Ham condemn ‘offensive and divisive’ chant about Israel winger Manor Solomon

The Guardian · 4 hours ago

West Ham United have condemned an "offensive and divisive" chant sung by a section of their away support during the club's 2-2 draw at Burnley, urging fans not to repeat it ahead of Saturday's first Championship home game against Charlton Athletic. The chant referred to Israeli winger Manor Solomon and contained an "anti-Palestine message", prompting the club to issue a statement reaffirming its commitment to inclusivity and warning against behaviour that causes division among supporters.

In its statement, West Ham stressed that while singing is part of the matchday tradition, it should never create division or offence, citing the club's history since 1895 and its location in a diverse part of London. Solomon, 27, scored on his debut in the 72nd minute at Turf Moor after joining from Tottenham this month for a reported £5m, having previously played for Fulham and Leeds. Despite leading 2-0, West Ham dropped points late on as Zian Flemming scored twice, including an injury-time equaliser, leaving manager Nuno Espírito Santo "disappointed" but praising Solomon's impressive first outing.
