The General Services Administration is resisting proposed legislation that would expand judicial authority over federal courthouse real estate and facilities. The GSA currently manages courthouse properties across the nation as a landlord-type entity and contends that the bill would inappropriately transfer control of these buildings to the judiciary in up to 10 federal judicial districts.

The GSA's opposition centres on concerns about the judiciary's ability to effectively manage federal buildings. The agency argues that its established experience in property management and maintenance makes it better positioned to oversee courthouse facilities than the judicial branch would be if given direct property control authority.
