Mariah Carey ‘Unironically’ Reissuing ‘Glitter’ Soundtrack for 25th Anniversary
Mariah Carey is reissuing her *Glitter* soundtrack on vinyl for the first time to mark the album's 25th anniversary, alongside a digital edition featuring previously unreleased recordings. The move is notable given the album's troubled history: the accompanying 2001 film flopped critically and commercially, partly due to its release soon after 9/11, yet the soundtrack has since been embraced by fans and even inspired a 2018 campaign to push it to Number One on iTunes.
Carey said in a statement that she never expected to be "unironically" marking the album's anniversary, describing it as devastating to watch it become a punchline despite the care put into making it. The reissue, available to preorder now, includes limited-edition "Glittering Pink" and "Midnight Purple" 2-LP vinyl formats, and Carey has previewed a newly reimagined version of "Didn't Mean to Turn You On" featuring Rochelle Jordan, with more vault recordings promised for October.
