Prime Video’s 95-Minute Action Thriller Is Officially One of the Biggest Films on Streaming

Polygon · 4 hours ago

Icefall, a 2025 frozen-lake action thriller starring Joel Kinnaman, has surged to number two on Prime Video's US movie chart just days after being added to the service, giving the previously under-the-radar release a far bigger audience than its initial video-on-demand run achieved. The film's rise highlights how Prime Video can revive smaller action titles that lacked a strong theatrical or VOD launch by putting them in front of its large streaming audience.

Directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky, the 95-minute film follows Kinnaman as Harlan, an ex-Marine and poacher who finds a crashed plane containing millions of dollars beneath a frozen lake, only to be arrested by Ani, a young Indigenous game warden played by Cara Jade Myers. The pair are then forced into an uneasy alliance as criminals and corrupt police pursue the money and the ice beneath them grows increasingly unstable, in a premise likened to "No Country for Old Men on ice". Reviews were limited and mixed on Rotten Tomatoes, but the combination of a recognisable lead, a straightforward crime-thriller hook and a distinctive snowbound setting appears to have driven its streaming popularity, according to data from FlixPatrol.
