Nicole Atkins has released "Trippin' On Teardrops," the opening track from her forthcoming album Drama, marking the third single after "When The Night Falls" and "Singing In The Mirror." The song, described as extravagant yet lonesome, emerged from a difficult period of severe sleep disruption and emotional burnout, with a chorus Atkins had before finding the right verses, later shaped with input from Peter Bjorn and John's Peter Morén.

Atkins wrote the track while struggling with insomnia and extended sleep episodes, feelings she has linked to depression, and channelled that sense of watching life pass by into the lyrics. The accompanying video, shot on short notice at a historic early-1900s New Jersey estate now owned by the state parks system, follows a glamorous woman whose seemingly perfect life unravels, surrounded only by old fishing trophies. Drama is due for release on 28 September via Wicked Game/Sun.
