Wolves in the Throne Room have announced their eighth studio album, Estuary, due out on 23rd October via Relapse Records, alongside the release of its lead single and music video, "Ghosts Among the Obelisks". The announcement gives fans a first taste of the American black metal band's new material, which frontman Nathan Weaver has described as set within a post-apocalyptic concept world a thousand years after civilisation's collapse.

The lead single is described as a melancholic, mid-tempo black metal track with prominent, active drum work that sets it apart from the band's more atmospheric material. Weaver explained that the album explores a world where wilderness has reclaimed the cities and estuaries have become magical "nexus points" inhabited by spirits and mutant creatures. Estuary comprises six tracks, including "Knights of Tiamat", "Foretold in Reflections" and "The Orca Cliffs".
