He described the event as an "iconic moment," with the race coinciding with celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the United States, adding extra significance to the occasion for the drivers involved.

Rahal made the comments at the IndyCar Grand Prix Media Preview on Thursday, alongside fellow racer Sting Ray Robb, who also spoke about the event's wider significance. Around two dozen drivers are due to compete when the race runs through the streets of the U.S. capital on Sunday, combining top-level IndyCar competition with a landmark national anniversary.
