DC Studios' new series "Lanterns" has debuted strongly on HBO and HBO Max, outperforming its predecessor "The Penguin" and other major tentpole shows in early viewership figures. The strong premiere numbers suggest the series is off to a promising start, reinforcing confidence in DC Studios' television output following HBO's high-profile investment in the franchise.
According to Warner Bros. Discovery, "Lanterns" drew 9.3 million global cross-platform viewers and 6.6 million in the US within its first three days of availability, placing it among the top five series premieres on HBO Max. The show, created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King, stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler as intergalactic cops investigating an earth-based murder with cosmic ties, and has held the No. 1 spot on HBO Max's daily Top 10 list since its debut. Its opening beat premieres for "IT: Welcome to Derry", "The Penguin" and "True Detective: Night Country", though those series went on to average higher overall viewership (27.1 million, 19.8 million and 17.5 million respectively).
