Antonelli leads Norris in Dutch GP first practice

BBC Sport · 3 hours ago

Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli set the pace in first practice for the Dutch Grand Prix, edging out McLaren's Lando Norris as Formula 1 returned from its summer break at Zandvoort. The session offered an early look at how teams have used the break to bring upgrades, with particular attention on whether Aston Martin's new Honda engine is delivering the performance gains the team had hoped for.

Antonelli, who leads the drivers' championship, was 0.121 seconds quicker than Norris, with Mercedes team-mate George Russell just 0.004 seconds further back in third. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, 50 points behind Antonelli in the standings, was fourth, ahead of team-mate Charles Leclerc and McLaren's Oscar Piastri. Fernando Alonso finished 12th, 1.562 seconds off the pace, in what appeared to be an encouraging sign for Aston Martin's revamped Honda power unit, while Red Bull's Max Verstappen managed only 11th and stand-in driver Liam Lawson, drafted in after Isack Hadjar's wrist injury, was 14th.

  • Antonelli fastest in Dutch GP practice, ahead of Norris and Russell.
  • Hamilton fourth for Ferrari; Verstappen only 11th for Red Bull.
