The Hollies Call It Quits After 64 Years

Stereogum · 3 hours ago

The Hollies, one of Britain's most enduring pop bands, have ended their touring career after 64 years, citing health issues affecting long-serving guitarist Tony Hicks. Formed in Manchester in 1962, the group was once fronted by Graham Nash before he left in 1968 to form Crosby, Stills & Nash, and they went on to score a string of hits across the 1960s and 1970s. The decision brings to a close one of the longest-running acts in British pop history.

The band announced the news via Instagram, explaining that Hicks has decided to step away from touring for health reasons, while drummer Bobby Elliott — another mainstay since the early 1960s — has chosen to retire alongside him out of solidarity. Both musicians had been part of the lineup since the band's earliest days. Their final performance was a brief four-song set in Scottsdale, Arizona, this past January, marking their first appearance since a 2023 tour and closing out a catalogue that includes "Bus Stop", "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress)" and "The Air That I Breathe".
