Director David Hackl, best known for "Saw V" and "Dangerous", is set to helm the neo-noir action thriller "Solar Storm" for Pelican Pictures, with Jack Hudson and Lorena Andrea cast in the lead roles. The project marks a notable genre departure for Hackl and pairs two rising performers in a high-concept survival story, adding to a wave of disaster-thriller productions moving through the independent film market.

Written by Joe Rabl, the film takes place over a single day and follows Joe (Hudson), an ex-convict trying to escape his past, and Jasmine (Andrea), a woman fleeing an abusive marriage, as the largest solar storm in recorded history knocks out power and plunges a city into looting and chaos. Supporting cast includes Massi Furlan, Valerie Huber and Werner Daehn, with Hudson, Rabl and Walter Mair of Trigger Films producing and Reinhard Besser executive producing. Principal photography is scheduled to begin in winter 2026 in Bulgaria on a budget of roughly €15 million, with Trigger Films financing the project via UK tax credit and GAP funding.
