Amazon Is Under Fire After Leaking Jason Statham’s New Movie

Polygon · 3 hours ago

Amazon accidentally made Jason Statham’s new action film Mutiny available on Prime Video before its intended release, allowing some viewers to watch it early. The film was removed, but the incident reportedly gave pirates time to copy and distribute it online, potentially harming its cinema takings and creating possible consequences for Amazon.

Mutiny, distributed by Lionsgate, opened in cinemas on 21 August and reportedly cost $40 million to make. It stars Statham as former soldier and police officer Cole Reed, who pursues those who framed him aboard a cargo ship; with weak critical reception, Deadline estimated an opening weekend of $7 million to $9 million.

  • Amazon briefly leaked Mutiny on Prime Video before release.
  • Pirated copies reportedly spread after the accidental upload.
  • The film is forecast to earn $7–9 million opening weekend.
