2 Years Later, Apple TV’s Most Mind-Bending Sci-Fi Thriller Is Officially Back

Apple TV’s sci-fi thriller Dark Matter returns for its second season on 28 August, two years after its 2024 debut. Created by Blake Crouch from his 2016 novel, the series follows a Chicago physicist abducted by an alternate version of himself and drawn into another reality, combining multiverse and time-travel elements. Its return reinforces Apple TV’s continued investment in ambitious, long-form science fiction.

The first season starred Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly, with Alice Braga and Jimmi Simpson in supporting roles, and was praised for its scale and performances. It holds an 81% “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Dark Matter joins other Apple TV science-fiction dramas including Severance, Silo, Foundation and For All Mankind.
