Tupac murder trial plays “secret” police interview with Keffe D admitting role in rapper’s shooting

A previously unreleased 2008 police interview with Duane “Keffe D” Davis was played to jurors in his Las Vegas trial over the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur. In the recording, Davis appears to describe his role in the drive-by shooting, a key development because prosecutors allege he helped organise the attack even though he is not accused of firing the shots.

Davis, 63, has pleaded not guilty to murder with use of a deadly weapon. He said he was in the front passenger seat of a rented Cadillac and passed a gun to the back seat, where he claimed Orlando Anderson fired at Shakur’s car; the defence says Davis fabricated such accounts for money, entertainment and personal advantage. The court allowed the interview despite claims it was confidential, while prosecutors argue Davis later waived that protection by repeating the story publicly, including in his 2019 memoir.

  • Jurors heard Davis apparently describe Tupac Shakur’s shooting.
  • Davis denies murder and says his accounts were fabricated.
  • Prosecutors allege the attack followed a fight involving Anderson.
