Two Phoenix police officers, Luis Vasquez Jr and Antonio Felix, have been fired and arrested following allegations that they violently assaulted a couple during a traffic stop in south Phoenix on 5 August. The case has drawn attention because prosecutors say the officers used their positions and access to sensitive police data to intimidate the victims and attempt to cover up the incident, prompting the police chief to publicly condemn their conduct and stress accountability.

According to police and prosecutors, the officers smashed the couple's car windows, tasered and beat the male driver, and forced the woman into an armbar before tasering and handcuffing her. She was allegedly threatened, had her phone taken (which was later lost or destroyed), and was left stranded to walk home for over an hour. Neither officer activated a body camera or reported the incident, and both allegedly denied involvement when questioned, with the case only unravelling after Tempe police investigated the abandoned vehicle. Vasquez and Felix, who had served eight and nine years respectively, now face charges including kidnapping, aggravated assault, robbery and evidence tampering, with bail set at $100,000 each.
