A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and aggravated burglary following the death of Rose Smith, 75, after a break-in at her home in Finsbury Park, north London. Police say the incident, which occurred on Friday evening, has caused significant concern in the local community, and officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses and doorbell footage as the investigation continues.

Ms Smith was taken to hospital after the burglary at the house on Evershot Road in Tollington Park, where an increased police presence remains. An 81-year-old man was also treated at the scene for injuries and hospitalised, but was discharged the following day. Detective Chief Inspector Ben Massink, who is leading the investigation, said Ms Smith's family are being supported by specialist officers, while her relatives paid tribute to her as an "outgoing" and "wonderful" woman who loved bingo and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. Anyone with information has been asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously.
