Sydney's train network suffered a second major disruption on Tuesday after a man attempted to take his own life at Central Station, adding to a day already marked by widespread delays. The incident halted services and left commuters facing further disruption just hours after an earlier fault had already caused chaos across the network, compounding what was already proving a difficult day for travel in the city.

Transport for NSW said the man went in front of a train at Central Station at 11.45am on Tuesday and was taken away by emergency services, believed to be alive. Services have since resumed but delays persist between Central Station and Bondi Junction, with Sydney Trains urging passengers to allow extra travel time as trains may stop for longer than usual. This followed earlier disruption caused by urgent overnight repairs to overhead wiring at Chatswood station, which suspended city-bound trains and affected the T1 North Shore and Western Line, T9 Northern Line, and Central Coast and Newcastle lines in both directions.
