Young British soldier dies while on holiday in ‘sudden and tragic’ circumstances in Bali as loved-ones describe ‘family’s worst nightmare’
A young British soldier, Craftsman Finlay Perkins, has died in "sudden and tragic" circumstances while on holiday in Bali, prompting tributes from his family, colleagues and the Royal British Legion. Perkins, understood to be from Milton Keynes, passed away on 9 August during what was meant to be a joyful trip with friends and family, and his cause of death has not been disclosed.
A fundraising appeal was launched to cover the "enormous financial burden" of repatriating his body to the UK, attracting 556 donations. His funeral will take place on 10 September, with mourners escorting him on foot from the old police station on Newport Pagnell High Street to St Peter and St Paul's Church, followed by a celebration of what his family called his "adventurous life"; they have asked for donations to the Jack the Lad charity, which works to prevent young people dying abroad in avoidable accidents, in lieu of flowers.
