Man dies and woman critically injured after black Audi collides with white Ford Puma during police pursuit
A man died and a woman was left critically injured after a black Audi being pursued by police collided with a white Ford Puma near Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. The Audi driver had failed to stop for officers on Birmingham Road on the evening of 24 August, fleeing towards the A46 before returning to Stratford on the A439, where the crash occurred. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has launched an investigation, as is mandatory following a death connected to police contact.
Warwickshire Police said the pursuit began shortly before 5.25pm, with the collision happening at around 5.44pm. Two ambulances, three paramedic officers and two air ambulances attended the scene. The Audi's male driver was pronounced dead despite efforts to save him, while the Ford's female driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital; a second woman, a passenger in the Ford, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and a fourth person received minor injuries. Multiple other vehicles were damaged during the chase, and parts of the A439 remain closed while investigations continue.
