A North Carolina doctor who owns his own urgent care clinic has been arrested after allegedly shooting two teenage sisters in the legs during a road rage incident in Virginia. Dr Richard Arriviello, 61, is accused of opening fire on a moving Jeep carrying the 12- and 20-year-old girls on Interstate 77 on Saturday morning, before fleeing the scene in his Mercedes-Benz. He was later stopped and arrested in Carroll County, and now faces multiple serious charges.

Virginia State Police responded to reports of the shooting just before 9am; both girls were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the confrontation remains unclear, though the Jeep's driver was charged with reckless driving and has not been publicly named. Arriviello, who owns Family Urgent Care in Monroe near Charlotte and has practised medicine for about 30 years with no prior criminal record or malpractice suits, faces charges including malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle and use of a firearm during a felony. He is being held without bond and is due in court on 29 September.
