The jokes, delivered during his opening monologue, targeted Trump's handling of a ceremonial appearance at a Washington DC IndyCar race and drew on reports about his weight, marking a notable departure from the star's usual reluctance to comment on politics.

Jelly Roll poked fun at footage of Trump waving the green flag at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix and joked about his "lap of honour" in the presidential motorcade, before turning to a Washington Post report that Trump had gained 14lb to reach nearly 240lb after his latest physical. The singer, who has lost roughly 300lb himself, quipped he had "lost an entire Donald Trump," then played a montage of Trump previously criticising other people's weight and appearance. Jelly Roll first guest-hosted the show in July 2025 and returned this week while regular host Jimmy Kimmel is on summer break.
