ReelShort Strikes Microdrama Deal With Indonesian Streamer Vidio For 200 Catalogue Titles & Co-Production Of New Shows
ReelShort, the US-based microdrama app owned by Crazy Maple Studio, has partnered with Indonesian streaming platform Vidio to bring its catalogue of short-form dramas to local audiences and jointly produce new titles with Indonesian production houses. The deal, ReelShort's first in Indonesia, forms part of a broader Southeast Asian expansion that has already seen it strike similar partnerships with AIS in Thailand and Globe in the Philippines, reflecting the rapid global growth of the microdrama format and Indonesia's position as its biggest regional audience.
From 1 September, more than 200 ReelShort titles spanning romance, fantasy and family drama will be available on Vidio's Short Drama tab, with many dubbed or subtitled in Indonesian, for subscribers on its higher-tier packages. The companies will also co-produce a "sizable" slate of new short dramas. According to Media Partners Asia, ReelShort holds roughly 29% of the global short-form drama revenue share, Vidio had 5.8 million regional paid subscribers in Q2 2026, and Indonesia accounts for 39% of Asia-Pacific's short-form drama viewership, the largest share in the region.

ReelShort is a mobile app that streams "microdramas" – vertical, bite-sized dramas made up of very short episodes, similar to a TV soap but designed for phone viewing in quick bursts. It's owned by US company Crazy Maple Studio and has become one of the biggest names in this fast-growing entertainment format worldwide. Vidio is a leading Indonesian streaming platform, comparable to a local Netflix, offering films, series and live sports to subscribers.
Microdrama has exploded in popularity in Asia in recent years, with romance, fantasy and family-themed shows proving especially popular. Indonesia has emerged as the single largest audience for the format anywhere in the Asia-Pacific region, making it a key market for companies like ReelShort looking to expand beyond their home base. ReelShort has already formed similar partnerships with telecoms and media firms in Thailand and the Philippines as part of a wider push into Southeast Asia.
This matters because it shows how quickly the microdrama industry is moving from a niche format into mainstream streaming, with established local platforms teaming up with international specialists rather than competing directly. Such deals typically involve licensing existing content for local audiences alongside producing new shows together, giving both sides access to new viewers, funding and production expertise.
