Mystery as Irish couple’s naked bodies are found beside hot tub in rented Spanish property by their teenage children
Spanish police are investigating after an Irish couple was found dead, naked and with wounds, beside a hot tub at their rented holiday property in Cullera, near Valencia, on Tuesday. The bodies were discovered by the couple's own teenage children, aged 14 and 16, who alerted the property's owner before emergency services were called; officers are examining whether the deaths resulted from an accident or foul play, and support services have been sent to assist the traumatised, non-Spanish-speaking siblings.
The couple had been staying in Cap Blanc, an upmarket hillside neighbourhood of Cullera known for panoramic sea views, and detectives have been going door-to-door questioning neighbours. Investigators noted the hot tub water appeared unusually cloudy and took a sample for laboratory testing as part of the inquiry. The bodies were taken to Valencia's Institute of Legal Medicine for an autopsy, while an uncle is travelling from Ireland to take custody of the children.
